Sydney’s Northern Beaches is... well, as you may have suspected, known for its beaches. However, there are many gorgeous cafes and brunch spots to visit — with beautiful vibes, fresh coffee beans, and delicious menus. Keep reading for our recommendations.
Our Favourite Coffee and Brunch Spots in the Northern Beaches:
Barrel One Coffee Roasters
Not only do they do a divine selection of bagels and other light breakfasts, their coffees are roasted locally and ethically produced. If you’re going to do anything, pick up a bag of beans for home.
Their Manly, Cromer and Brookvale locations are old warehouses refined and up cycled, with a (mostly) monochrome colour scheme. Expect loud, entirely cool merch and canned bevvies amongst the coffee and conversation.
Skittle Lane Coffee Roasters
Even more refined, Skittle Lane is timelessness in a cup of coffee. Their locations are dotted around the city and Bondi, but our favourite is their Manly store — with two large seating areas, and a display of homewares and Hasami ceramics (and an attached Assembly Label), it’s a beautifully simple and serene place to savour a brew.
Rollers Bakehouse
Coffee and Croissants. Truly, there’s nothing better. Rollers in Manly serves up sweet and savoury baked goods with a specially-created exclusive Wood and Co blend. Think: pink walls, checkered tables. But go early, there’s almost always a line.
Girdlers
With four locations in Manly, Warringah Mall, Avalon and Dee Why, Girdlers is a favourite of many. And, it’s completely deserved — their menu has goodness bowls, buckwheat crepes and smoothies all made with love from honest ingredients. Their white coffees are use their own organic house blend, called The All Good and are delicious. Plus, they have a selection of Single O’s to keep you going.
Effies
Effies in Balgowlah is an essential visit. Brewing Market Lane all day, and natural wines all night. Pair your beverage with a delicious Butterboy Cookie, or some cheese and charcuterie in the evening — either way it’s a non-negotiable.
Ruby Lane
Chef meets grocer: a wholefoods love story. Ruby Lane in Manly serves up a charming menu of cold pressed juices, healthy elixirs, acai bowls, burgers, coffees and big breakfasts. All of which are made from organic ingredients available to take home.
Showbox Coffee Brewers Cafe
Another Manly staple, Showbox brews 7 Seeds Roasters, among others on rotation. Tucked away, its a gorgeous breakfast or brunch spot to visit after the beach. Your mouth will water when you see their lamb pita roll, or their spring bowl.
